Tepoztlán is a folkloric town with indigenous roots. It has eight barrios, each with its own old, original chapel, a true delight for any visitor to see. At the heart of the valley rises the Monastery of the Nativity, a 16th Century building decorated with original frescoes. The building was dedicated to the Virgin of the Nativity, from whom it takes its name. This architectural monument was declared Legacy of Mankind by UNESCO.
